Art Dump and Life Update

Oh wow, I can't believe it's been basically a year since I've posted anything here! Sorry about that. Have some art to help make up for it! These heads are for part of my week 3 assignment for Stephen Silver's character design course over at Schoolism. It's taking me forever to get through it since I would much rather be drawing animals/creatures/furries, but I'm purposefully forcing myself to draw every assignment as a human in order to improve at drawing them in general.

I also had a friend from college visiting me for the past two weeks. I really liked her traveler's watercolor painting kit and water brush, so I got one for myself. I like how these two turned out and find that I don't feel the paralyzing pressure to be good when dong watercolor that comes when I want to draw. I'm looking forward to doing more of these, but it looks like Vancouver is returning to it's default state of being depressingly rainy as summer comes to a close.

This painting was done a few months ago after being inspired by Marco Bucci's awesome videos and demo's. It only took two hours and turned out surprisingly well.

Work wise, things are obviously done on Spider-Man: Homecoming since the film came out back in July. The summer was spent on hiatus due to some downtime at Sony, but I'm back at the studio now and am having a blast on Hotel Transylvania 3!

Small Town Witch

One of my friends introduced me to that song last week and I can't get enough of it.

Inktober Day 6: Hidden

I made some progress today with identifying why I struggle with the brush pen. I draw with my wrist, rather than my arm and trying to do the latter results in nice line weight but comes at the cost of control. Practicing drawing with my arm should improve my coordination and hopefully allow me to have more than the almost minimal control/accuracy that I feel like I have currently. This drawing was done after doing two pages of practice lines, basic shapes, and toy drawings. The practice exercises definitely helped!

Inktober Day 5

Day 5's theme is sad, so have an emo moose saytr, lol.

Penciltober

Lol, I'm not going to bother attempting to ink this one cause I know I'll ruin it. XD

Inktober Day 2

You know what they say about having to go through 10,000 bad drawings...well this is certainly one of them.

First Ever Inktober

Hey everyone,
For the first time ever, I'm attempting to participate in Inktober! I've never done it before since I figured it was something for sequential artists and illustrators. That and my inking skills and line weight tend to suck due to my sketchy way of drawing. But the only way to improve at either of those is to practice, so I'm giving Inktober a try. This turned out surprisingly okay though. I was terrified of ruining my drawing, and while I did mess up in some places, I'm glad it's not a disaster lol. XD Also, it was really nice to work with traditional media rather than on the computer!

New Smurfs Movie

Hey everyone,
Things are busy at work, but I wanted to take a moment to post the teaser for the project I'm working on. I'm so glad this new Smurfs movie is full cg rather than vfx. It looks much more appealing and fun!

The poster is pretty neat as well. I hope they'll hand some out to the crew! =D

Nidoking Punch

I wanted to try this thing I see done in anime all the time, and am pleased to have pulled it off. There are volume and spacing issues throughout this, but it accomplished what I set out to do so I'm willing to overlook them this time. Finished, not perfect! =D

Angry Birds Commercial

Hey everyone,
I'm a month late in realizing the Angry Birds commercial I worked on has been released, lol. I animated the shot of Chuck zipping around to read everyone's badge numbers, and the shot afterwards of Red saying "I'm getting on this show no problem, I know exactly what they're looking for". I didn't get to work on the movie, so I was super excited to animate the characters for the commercial. =D

Painting During Downtime

Oh hey, I still exist! Aaaaaand I did some art! As far as animation goes, I'm currently on time off between having finished on Angry Birds marketing and my start date on the next show. Outside of work, I'm animating on an awesome short that folks might have heard of called The Book of Mojo! =D

Canine Fighting Poses and More!

Hey everyone,
I have a friend from school visiting me here in Vancouver and she thought it would be fun to draw while listening to some music from Undertale. Everything sounded wonderfully whimsy and like something you'd hear in Skullgirls. So I figured I'd try some fighting game-esq poses for a quadruped character. It was a pretty fun exercise and it was great to draw creatively again. It's been such a long time!

A few weeks ago, I got to design a poster for an upcoming local qtipoc dance party. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and am looking forward to seeing it posted around the city! =D

I also just realized I hadn't uploaded these drawings that I did a while ago. Oops, lol. XD

Back to Basics

I still haven't given up on learning how to paint! After much intimidation and failed attempts to paint something from my imagination, I figured it would be best to return to basics and work on more painting 101. So I watched some videos from cntrl paint.com and tried my hand at quick "still life". Unfortunately, I lack a desk lamp and am thus unable to set up a direct light source situation so I had to make do with the light that reaches over from the kitchen. Lol, I got tired towards the end (it is 1:08am after all) and didn't bother to work on Pikachu's feet, oh well. Hopefully I'll have more Pokemon figurine paintings tomorrow!

Whoa, Life Drawings!

Hey guys,
I went to Basic Inquiry this evening to do some life drawing and like what I did enough to post them here. I think reading On The Art of Drawing is helping out a lot!

Also, check out the teaser posters for Alice Through the Looking Glass from D23. I'm having lots of fun working on this project and still can't believe I get to animate such cool characters such as the Cheshire Cat and the March Hare!

New Little Prince Trailer

Hey guys,
Long time no post! I have a few updates to share. First, there's a new trailer for The Little Prince! I'm so excited about this film! It's really good and I can't wait for everyone to see it. We just don't seem to get sincere movies like this anymore.

My next two updates are that Friday was my last day on Pixels and I'll be starting on Alice 2 in a couple of weeks! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2567026/

Posters

Hey guys,
Pixels posters have been released! The Pac Man one looks pretty cool. I wish we could see the face on the centipede one though.

The Little Prince

Hey guys,
Check out the trailer for the film I worked on in Montreal. The Little Prince is one of the most sincere, heart felt movies I've ever had the privilege of working on. The crew was fantastic and the project itself was a great experience. I really hope it does well next Christmas!
